Managing Director and Co-Founder
Peter has over three decades of investment management, management consulting, business development and corporate management experience in Asian and US markets. Prior to establishing CornerStone in 1997, he founded and managed his own private equity firm, Naushon Capital LLC, Boston through which he participated in the acquisition, financing or restructuring of over twenty companies in a variety of businesses ranging from sophisticated medical research to high technology and innovative sports equipment manufacturing. Before establishing Naushon Capital, Peter was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in their Washington D.C. and New York offices. Peter graduated with honors from Harvard College and received his MBA and MA degrees from Stanford University. Peter serves as Chairman of the Board of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia and is a board member of the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia, Jefferson Education Accelerator in Washington, D.C., and of the United Way Thomas Jefferson Area in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Managing Director and Co-Founder
Don has 45 years of experience in the global asset management and brokerage business. Prior to establishing CornerStone in 1997, he was a managing director of ING Barings in London and a member of the Barings Management Committee. Don worked for Salomon Brothers for 16 years in Hong Kong, New York, and Atlanta. He served as director and head of private client business for Salomon Brothers Asset Management, as director and founder of Salomon Brothers Asia Pacific Private Investment Department, and as a manager of Salomon Brothers U.S. Private Investment Department. Don began his career with Goldman Sachs in 1971. He served as a member of the founding board of the University of Virginia Investment Management Company. He also served as a founding trustee and chairman of the Finance Committee of the University of Virginia College Foundation. Don has a BA from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Emory University.
Kevin Schuyler, CFA
Kevin’s experience in portfolio management, private equity, real estate, trading and consulting spans two decades. Prior to joining CornerStone Partners, he was chief investment officer, vice president, and director of finance and investments for The Nature Conservancy, the world's largest not-for-profit conservation organization with more than $6 billion in assets and a $1.8 billion investment portfolio. Kevin managed relationships with the organization's investment managers and advisors, directed performance measurement and reporting, and led all capital market activities. He also oversaw more than $220 million in the employee retirement plan. Before The Nature Conservancy, he was a commodity trader and manager for Louis Dreyfus Corporation, a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, and an entrepreneur. Kevin serves on the investment committees of the Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, The Stone Barns Center, and The Haitian Project, Inc. Kevin graduated with honors from Harvard College and received his MBA from The Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Washington, DC.
Christopher Laing, CFA
Chris began his investment career in 1995 and has extensive global investment and portfolio management experience. Prior to joining CornerStone, he worked with Lloyd George Management in Hong Kong as a senior manager of Asian equity portfolios. Before working for Lloyd George, he was a senior portfolio manager in INVESCO’s Global Asset Management Division where he served on the investment team that managed $18 billion in global developed and developing equity markets. He was one of six portfolio managers who oversaw all investment recommendations and trading execution, and who established asset allocation and individual security weightings for INVESCO’s global equity portfolios. He was also an equity portfolio manager and analyst in the firm’s US Institutional Group. Chris is on the board and the endowment investment committee of the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area and is Chair of the Boogher-Wheat Fund Committee at St. Paul’s Ivy Episcopal Church. Chris graduated from the University of Virginia and is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Virginia.
David joined CornerStone after serving as a Managing Director of the University of Virginia Investment Management Company (UVIMCO), which manages the University’s globally diversified portfolio. He was one of four Managing Directors on the senior leadership team working directly with the CEO/CIO on all relevant investment and organizational activities. David was a member of the Investment Committee responsible for asset allocation, risk management and manager selection across all asset classes. He was also a member of the Risk Committee charged with understanding and addressing all aspects of market, manager and liquidity risks within the Long Term Pool. He acted as a sponsor or co-sponsor for manager hiring decisions in a wide range of externally managed strategies in which UVIMCO was invested: public and private equity, hedge funds, real estate and natural resources, and credit. Prior to UVIMCO, David worked for Forest City Enterprises, a national real estate developer and as a member of the Acquisitions team at Starwood Capital Group, a global private investment firm. He also worked in private equity for UBS Capital Asia Pacific in Hong Kong and in mergers and acquisitions for J.P. Morgan. David has an AB from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Shane Galie, CFA
Shane rejoined CornerStone Partners after working for the Dartmouth College Investment Office. There he had been a senior investment analyst handling sourcing and due diligence of traditional and alternative investment managers, strategic asset allocation and portfolio construction, risk management, and performance reporting. Shane was with the University of Virginia Investment Management Company for several years analyzing hedge fund and long-only public equity manager exposures and performance attributes. He also calculated and monitored valuations of private equity and real asset investments and conducted due diligence on prospective managers. When previously at CornerStone Partners, he sourced and analyzed prospective investment managers, assisted in asset allocation, and developed performance and quantitative reports. Shane graduated summa cum laude and University Valedictorian from James Madison University. He has also studied abroad in Belgium and is a member of CFA Virginia and the CFA Institute.
Jerry Polk, CAIA
Jerry has 14 years of experience in investment management. Prior to joining CornerStone Partners, he served for several years as a Director in the Office of Investments at The Ohio State University, which is responsible for managing the University's $3.6 billion endowment. He was primarily responsible for managing the illiquid investment portfolio including private equity, natural resources, real estate and private credit, but was also involved in formulating global investment strategy, portfolio construction and manager selection across all asset classes. Prior to Ohio State, Jerry was the Director of Private Investments at Southern Methodist University and an Investment Officer at the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System. Jerry has a BS and MBA from Louisiana State University and holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.
Nick has fifteen years of experience in the endowment and institutional investment management business. He joined CornerStone Partners from the Georgetown University Endowment Investment Office, which manages the University's $1.5 billion endowment. He was with Georgetown for six years where his responsibilities included sourcing, evaluating and monitoring traditional and alternative investment managers, and strategic asset allocation and portfolio construction. For five years prior to Georgetown, Nick worked for Hudson Canyon Investment Counselors as an investment analyst and Chief Compliance Officer. At Hudson Canyon he concentrated on security, industry and portfolio analysis and also oversaw the firm’s client, compliance and back office operations. Nick earned his BS from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce with course concentrations in Finance and Management Information Systems.
Peter Harbilas, CFA
Peter joined CornerStone Partners upon graduation from Washington and Lee University. During college he worked as an Investment Intern for the Virginia Retirement System in Richmond. He initiated and led work on a proprietary hedge fund model, provided summaries of manager commentaries, helped the Public Equity group manage its $38 billion equity portfolio, and met with outside equity, hedge fund and currency investment managers. Active in various leadership and entrepreneurial capacities at Washington and Lee, he was elected to the Omicron Delta Epsilon Economics and Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Societies and graduated magna cum laude in mathematics and with honors in economics. Peter serves on the Investment Committee of the National MS Society and is a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Virginia.
Pete joined CornerStone Partners after two years at RBC Capital Markets, where he worked as an Equity Research Associate in the energy sector. Primary responsibilities included detailed analysis of roughly thirty oilfield service companies, developing macroeconomic research relevant to the energy space, evaluating management teams and discussing research and potential investment opportunities with investors across the public equity universe. Pete also has three years of experience in public accounting at Ernst & Young, LLP, where he was responsible for planning and producing financial audits for asset management clients, specifically hedge funds, private equity groups and long only asset managers. Pete earned a BA from the University of North Carolina, a Master of Accounting from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School, and an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden Graduate School of Business. He has held numerous FINRA licenses.
Jae Kwon, CFA
Jae joined CornerStone Partners after working for six years as an analyst focused on equities and structured credit. Most recently at Harbor Bridge Capital and Boodell & Co., both long/short equity hedge funds, he performed equity research focused primarily on China Internet, India and consumer sectors across Asia. He also worked at Och-Ziff Capital, a multi-strategy hedge fund, where he performed investment analysis focusing on Non-Agency RMBS, Trust Preffered CDOs and ABS CDOs within the structured credit markets. Before Jae moved to the investment management side, he was an Associate on the CDO structuring team at JPMorgan, where he was involved in closing/issuing 11 transactions totaling over $7.2bn in notional amount. He began his career as an Analyst on the Mortgage Advisory team at BlackRock that consulted and managed mortgage servicing rights for institutional mortgage lenders. Jae graduated from Cooper Union with a Bachelor of Engineering degree and is a member of the CFA Institute and New York Society of Security Analysts.
Xi joined CornerStone Partners upon graduation from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. During college she worked as an Asset Management Intern at Citigroup in Shanghai, as a Corporate Finance Intern at Weber Shandwick in Shanghai, and as a Loan Intern at Industrial and Commercial Bank of China in Wuxi, China. While at McIntire she Co-Founded and was Chief Editor of an organization that provided free subtitles for American TV show viewers in China. She was also a Student Ambassador, providing mentoring and career advice for incoming freshmen. She earned a BS in Commerce and Quantitative Finance from McIntire.
Hunter joined CornerStone Partners upon graduation from the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond. During college he worked as a Summer Analyst at Maryland Capital Management and as an Equity Research Intern at Stifel Nicolaus, both in Baltimore. At Maryland Capital, Hunter worked on the Large Cap Growth research team, performing fundamental stock research on growth companies across various sectors. He earned a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the Robins School of Business.
Kristin L. Henningsen, CPA/ABV/CFF
Director, Investment Operations
Kristin has over twenty years of experience in the accounting profession. Prior to joining CornerStone, Kristin worked for several large regional public accounting firms responsible for financial statement audits and accounting, tax compliance, and consulting for clients across a broad range of industries including investment companies and nonprofit entities. She has been recognized for her expertise working in the areas of business valuations and litigation support by receiving professional recognition from Virginia Business magazine as a “Super CPA” for eight years. Kristin is Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the AICPA. She served as Chair and was a board member of the Charlottesville Economic Development Authority for eight years, past Treasurer of Service Dogs of Virginia, a graduate of Leadership Charlottesville, and a member of the Central Virginia Estate Planning Council. She earned a BS in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
Carrie Davis, CPA/ABV/CFF
Investment Operations Senior Associate
Carrie has nine years of experience in the accounting profession. Prior to joining CornerStone, Carrie worked for a large regional accounting firm with direct experience in investor/performance reporting, accounting, auditing, and taxation. Some of her responsibilities included financial recording and analysis for investment funds and providing valuation services for financial entities. She has been recognized for her expertise in the accounting field by receiving the Virginia Business Super CPA – Young CPA award and has Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) certifications. She earned BS and MS degrees in Commerce and Accounting from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. Carrie serves on the board of the Bethany Early Childhood Education Center and as the Secretary of the PTO at Hugh K. Cassell Elementary.
Investment Operations Associate
Palmer has six years of experience in the investment management and brokerage industries. Prior to joining CornerStone, Palmer was an Assistant Vice President at Silvercrest Asset Management, a New York based investment advisor with $16 billion in assets under management. His responsibilities included providing portfolio management and front and back office investment related services to a portion of the firm’s client base. Prior to Silvercrest, he worked as an investment analyst with a group of investment managers at SunTrust Investment Services providing investment and portfolio support to clients. Before joining SunTrust, he worked as a Financial Advisor at Wells Fargo Advisors. He previously held FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses. Palmer received a B.S. in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
Morganne Woodson, CPA
Investment Operations Associate
Morganne has four years of professional experience in the accounting profession. Prior to joining CornerStone, Morganne worked for a large regional public accounting firm in the areas of audit and taxation, serving clients across a variety of industries, including the nonprofit sector. During her time in public accounting, Morganne served as an audit team leader and mentored new staff through the audit and tax preparation process. Morganne served on the Executive Board of Beta Alpha Psi, an honors accounting organization, while attending James Madison University. She earned BBA and MS degrees in Accounting from James Madison University.

Sheldon has several years of experience as an investment performance and corporate finance analyst. Prior to joining CornerStone, he was an Investment Performance Analyst and Team Leader in the Performance Reporting Group at Cambridge Associates in the firm’s Arlington, Virginia office. The clients he worked with included university endowments, foundations and OCIO firms. Sheldon was also a mentor in the training program and served as a member of the Internal Performance Reporting Audit team with oversight responsibility for reviewing the accuracy and consistency of client reports. Before joining Cambridge Associates, he was a Corporate Finance Intern at Dominion Enterprises. Sheldon earned a BBA in Finance and a BA in Economics from The College of William and Mary as well as an MBA from the Mason School of Business at The College of William and Mary.
Maria Rolph, IACCP®
Chief Compliance Officer
Maria has 17 years of experience in investment adviser administration, finance and compliance. She managed client service for two international funds of funds as the central point of contact for the General Partner for over seven years. Her responsibilities included client service and reporting to high net worth and institutional investors, and working with outside managers, administrators, auditors, and counsel in support of fund management and administration. She is a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was a military intelligence analyst and linguist before joining CornerStone. Maria graduated with honors from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey, California and holds the Investment Adviser Certified Compliance Professional (IACCP(r)) designation issued by the National Regulatory Services. She is also a member of the Piedmont CASA Friends committee and a graduate of the Center for Nonprofit Excellence Board Academy.
Sarah joined CornerStone Partners with experience working for Warburg Realty Partnership in New York and Sirius Technology and Research in Charlottesville. At Warburg Realty, she was the Executive Assistant for the President and Executive Vice President of this large New York real estate firm for 4 years. She was also responsible for overseeing the licensing for 100 real estate agents and maintaining all client contract templates. After this experience in New York, Sarah moved to Charlottesville where she worked for Sirius Technology as the Administrative Assistant for the founders of the firm. She subsequently started her own social media and website content freelance marketing and consulting firm. Sarah earned a BS in Psychology from Sweet Briar College in 2004.
