Managing Director and Co-Founder
Peter has over three decades of investment management, management consulting, business development and corporate management experience in Asian and US markets. Prior to establishing CornerStone in 1997, he founded and managed his own private equity firm, Naushon Capital LLC, Boston through which he participated in the acquisition, financing or restructuring of over twenty companies in a variety of businesses ranging from sophisticated medical research to high technology and innovative sports equipment manufacturing. Before establishing Naushon Capital, Peter was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in their Washington D.C. and New York offices. Peter graduated with honors from Harvard College and received his MBA and MA degrees from Stanford University.
Managing Director and Co-Founder
Don has over four decades of global experience in the asset management and brokerage business. Prior to establishing CornerStone in 1997, he was a Managing Director of ING Barings in London and a Member of the Barings Management Committee. Don worked for Salomon Brothers for sixteen years in Hong Kong, New York and Atlanta. He served as Director and head of private client business for Salomon Brothers Asset Management, as Director and founder of Salomon Brothers Asia Pacific Private Investment Department and as a Manager of Salomon Brothers US Private Investment Department. Don began his career with Goldman Sachs in 1971. He served as a member of the founding board of the University of Virginia Investment Management Company. He also served as a founding trustee and treasurer and chairman of the Finance Committee of the University of Virginia College Foundation. Don has a BA from the University of Virginia and a MBA from Emory University.
Kevin Schuyler, CFA
Kevin’s experience in portfolio management, private equity, real estate, trading and consulting spans two decades. Prior to joining CornerStone Partners, he was chief investment officer, vice president, and director of finance and investments for The Nature Conservancy, the world's largest not-for-profit conservation organization with more than $4 billion in assets and a $1.7 billion investment portfolio. Kevin managed relationships with the organization's investment managers and advisors, directed performance measurement and reporting, and led all capital market activities. He also oversaw more than $220 million in the employee retirement plan. Before The Nature Conservancy, he was a commodity trader and manager for Louis Dreyfus Corporation, a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, and an entrepreneur. Kevin serves on the investment committees of the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, The Anne Ray Charitable Trust, The Stone Barns Center and The Haitian Project, Inc. Kevin graduated with honors from Harvard College and received his MBA from The Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Washington, DC.
Christopher Laing, CFA
Chris began his investment career in 1995 and has extensive global investment and portfolio management experience. Prior to joining CornerStone, he worked with Lloyd George Management in Hong Kong as a senior manager of Asian equity portfolios. Before working for Lloyd George, he was a senior portfolio manager in INVESCO’s Global Asset Management Division where he served on the investment team that managed $18 billion in global developed and developing equity markets. He was one of six portfolio managers who oversaw all investment recommendations and trading execution, and who established asset allocation and individual security weightings for INVESCO’s global equity portfolios. He was also an equity portfolio manager and analyst in the firm’s US Institutional Group. Chris is on the board and the endowment investment committee at the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area. Chris graduated from the University of Virginia and is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Virginia.
David joined CornerStone after serving as a Managing Director of the University of Virginia Investment Management Company (UVIMCO), which manages the University’s globally diversified portfolio. He was one of four Managing Directors on the senior leadership team working directly with the CEO/CIO on all relevant investment and organizational activities. David was a member of the Investment Committee responsible for asset allocation, risk management and manager selection across all asset classes. He was also a member of the Risk Committee charged with understanding and addressing all aspects of market, manager and liquidity risks within the Long Term Pool. He acted as a sponsor or co-sponsor for manager hiring decisions in a wide range of externally managed strategies in which UVIMCO was invested: public and private equity, hedge funds, real estate and natural resources, and credit. Prior to UVIMCO, David worked for Forest City Enterprises, a national real estate developer and as a member of the Acquisitions team at Starwood Capital Group, a global private investment firm. He also worked in private equity for UBS Capital Asia Pacific in Hong Kong and in mergers and acquisitions for J.P. Morgan. David has an AB from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Shane Galie, CFA
Shane rejoined CornerStone Partners in 2009 from the Dartmouth College Investment Office. There he had been a senior investment analyst handling sourcing and due diligence of traditional and alternative investment managers, strategic asset allocation and portfolio construction, risk management, and performance reporting. Shane was with the University of Virginia Investment Management Company for several years analyzing hedge fund and long-only public equity manager exposures and performance attributes. He also calculated and monitored valuations of private equity and real asset investments and conducted due diligence on prospective managers. When previously at CornerStone Partners, he sourced and analyzed prospective investment managers, assisted in asset allocation, and developed performance and quantitative reports. Shane graduated summa cum laude and University Valedictorian from James Madison University. He has also studied abroad in Belgium and is a member of CFA Virginia and the CFA Institute.
Joy Hua, CFA, CPA
Joy joined CornerStone Partners after several years as an investment analyst at the University of Virginia Investment Management Company (UVIMCO), which manages the University’s $5 billion endowment. There she concentrated on asset allocation and risk analytics, performance analysis and risk measurement, and due diligence for public equity, hedge fund and private equity managers. She was a summer associate for the Teachers Retirement System of Texas and a part-time business analyst for PASCO Management Company, both while working towards her MBA at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. Before moving to the USA, she was at The Bank of East Asia and eBay EachNet in Shanghai, China, having graduated as one of the top students from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Joy is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Richmond.
Nick has ten years of experience in the endowment and institutional investment management business. He joined CornerStone Partners in 2011 from the Georgetown University Endowment Investment Office, which manages the University’s $1 billion endowment. He was with Georgetown for six years where, as an Investment Officer, his responsibilities included sourcing, evaluating and monitoring traditional and alternative investment managers, strategic asset allocation and portfolio construction, in addition to asset class responsibilities. For five years prior to Georgetown, Nick worked for Hudson Canyon Investment Counselors where he was an investment analyst and Chief Compliance Officer. At Hudson Canyon he concentrated on security, industry and portfolio analysis and also oversaw the firm’s client, compliance and back office operations. Nick earned his BS from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce with course concentrations in Finance and Management Information Systems.
Peter Harbilas, CFA
Peter joined CornerStone Partners upon graduation from Washington and Lee University. During college he worked as an Investment Intern for the Virginia Retirement System in Richmond. While there he initiated and led work on a proprietary hedge fund model, provided summaries of manager commentaries, helped the Public Equity group manage its $38 billion equity portfolio, and met with outside equity, hedge fund and currency investment managers. Active in various leadership and entrepreneurial capacities at Washington and Lee, he was elected to the Omicron Delta Epsilon Economics and Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Societies and graduated magna cum laude in mathematics and with honors in economics. Peter serves on the Investment Committee of the National MS Society and is President of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Washington and Lee Alumni Association. He is member of the CFA Institute and CFA Virginia.
James joined CornerStone Partners in 2013 after a year and a half working as Operations Group Analyst for Terra Nova Resource Holdings in Lima, Peru. Primary responsibilities at Terra Nova included designing and building financial models for budgeting, analyzing potential returns for future operations, evaluating proposed corporate transactions, identifying potential strategic partners and designing templates to measure the efficiency of various company activities. Prior to Terra Nova, James was an Associate Consultant with Triage Consulting Group in Atlanta where he focused on revenue analysis projects designed to secure additional reimbursement payments for healthcare companies across the United States. He worked as an intern at the Williams School of Commerce at Washington & Lee University where he developed content and teaching materials for the school’s Information Technology Literacy course. James earned his BA in Economics from Washington & Lee University and studied abroad at the Universidad de Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain.
Kristin L. Henningsen, CPA/ABV/CFF
Manager of Investment Operations
Kristin has over fifteen years of managerial experience in the accounting profession. Prior to joining CornerStone in 2011, Kristin worked for several large regional public accounting firms responsible for financial statement audits and accounting, tax compliance, and consulting for clients across a broad range of industries including investment companies and non-profit entities. She has been recognized for her expertise working in the areas of business valuations and litigation support by receiving professional recognition from Virginia Business magazine as a “Super CPA” for the past eight years. Kristin is Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the AICPA. She is a Board Member of the Charlottesville Economic Development Authority, past Treasurer of Service Dogs of Virginia, a graduate of Leadership Charlottesville, and a member of the Central Virginia Estate Planning Council. She received her B.S. degree in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
Carrie Davis, CPA/ABV/CFF
Investment Operations Associate
Carrie has over seven years of supervisory and audit experience in the accounting profession. Prior to joining CornerStone in 2013, Carrie worked for a large regional accounting firm with direct experience in investor/performance reporting and accounting and auditing. Her responsibilities included financial recording and analysis for investment funds and providing valuation services for financial entities. She has been recognized for her expertise in the accounting field by receiving the Virginia Business Super CPA – Young CPA award and has Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) certifications. She earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Commerce and Accounting from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
Morganne Woodson, CPA
Investment Operations Associate
Morganne has four years of professional experience in the accounting profession. Prior to joining CornerStone in 2013, Morganne worked for a large regional public accounting firm in the areas of audit and taxation, serving clients across a variety of industries, including the nonprofit sector. During her time in public accounting, Morganne served as an audit team leader and mentored new staff through the audit and tax preparation process. Morganne served on the Executive Board of Beta Alpha Psi, an honors accounting organization, while attending James Madison University. She earned B.B.A and M.S. degrees in Accounting from James Madison University.
Maria Rolph, IACCP®
Manager of Finance and Administration
Maria successfully completed the requirements of the National Regulatory Services’ Investment Adviser Certified Compliance Professional program and earned the IACCP® designation in 2013. Responsible for managing many of the firm’s compliance and control procedures, including tracking invested manager audits and background checks, she also maintains the firm’s internal accounting records and oversees office systems and administration. Maria managed client service for two funds of funds for several years, one focused on the emerging markets and the other on developed markets outside the US. She was the central point of contact for (100+) investors, advisers and their accountants and worked with underlying managers, administrators, auditors and counsel in a broad range of capacities including subscriptions/redemptions, AML documentation, fund audits, blue sky filings and client reporting. Formerly a military intelligence analyst and linguist in the U.S. Air Force, she has lived and traveled extensively overseas. Maria majored in English at Baylor University and graduated with honors from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey, California.
